In cats, as in other species, we are probably going to find more than one hereditary form of PKD. We cannot be sure at this moment that PKD1 is the cause of PKD in all breeds. Especially in breeds that are hardly related to the Persian cat a different mutant gene could have the same phenotypic effect and cause the disease.
