Testing for MDR1

Genetic Counselling Services (GCS) organizes and coordinates the MDR1 testing in the Netherlands and other European countries. If you want your dog tested, you should fill in a survey report and print it. There are several ways to have your dog tested.

  • If you want a certificate with the test result for your dog, you should go to your veterinarian with the survey report and a copy of the registration document (e.g. the pedigree). Your veterinarian will check the identity of your dog and will send the signed survey report and the copy of the registration document together with the sample (EDTA-blood or swabs) to GCS. Within three weeks after receival of the sample, GCS will send you a certificate with the details on the identity of your dog and the test result.

  • If you just want the test result for a sample, you should send your signed survey report together with the sample to GCS. Apart from the owner's information it is important to fill in the detailed information about your dog. It helps your breed club to define a strategy to solve the MDR1 problem for your breed. Within three weeks after receival of the sample, GCS will send you the test result.
